Round 2, Marijuana Is Finally Legal!!!
Only about a month ago I posted a blog about AB 390, a proposal by Tom Ammiano to legalize and tax Marijuana in the state of California. READ HERE.
After the story dropped it recieved a lot of attention, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that there is another state following close in California’s shadow. The state of Massachusetts has introduced House bill 2929 and Senate Bill 1801 both of which seek to legalize and tax cannibas much in the same way proposed by Ammiano’s AB 390.
The Massachusett’s bills divide cannibas into three different classes: A (10% THC or more), B (5% or more than 5% and less than 10% THC) and C ( 1% THC and less than 5% THC). Class A to be taxed at $250 per ounce. Class B $200 per ounce. Class C $150 per ounce.
Adults (yes 21 and older) who possess or grow marijuana for personal use, or who engage in the non-profit transfer of cannabis, would not be subject to taxation under the law.
If more states decide to follow in California and Massachusetts footsteps maybe we can get the federal government to stop being so up tight. I must say, the attorney general already stated the DEA would no longer be raiding states that allow medicinal marijuana. If these bills pass maybe the DEA will allow the states to make their own decisions on legal marijuana.

Does any one have and an informed estimate of the probability that this passes into law?

NO. haha That’s the problem. I did hear one eastimate on some news channel (probably CNN) that it could be up to a year before any steps are made on the bill in California.

This means that all what was needed was a precedent. The effects of marijuana are not harmful, in any case, not more harmful than those of alcohol or tabacco. So it was inevitable.
