ANOTHER CRASH!! Lockheed Martin and Edwards Pilot Killed in F-22A Crash
One of the most sophisticated fighter jets in the military, an F-22 Raptor, went down wednesday northeast of Edwards Air Force Base in California. One pilot was on board (the F-22 is a single pilot aircraft). David Cooley, 49, of Palmdale, California, joined the company in 2003 and was a 21-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was killed in the crash.
The aircraft was on a test mission. The crash happened wednesday during a test flight around 10:30am or 1:30pm ET .
The Lockheed Martin/Boeing F-22 Raptor is the new fighter for the Air Force. It was introduced in December of 2005. A single Raptor cost a lofty $137+ million. The F-22 has a speed rating of mach 2 class with supercruise capability.
I don’t know if it’s only me, but lately there have been a lot of reports about aircrafts crashing. Makes me want to just walk everywhere I go.

the F-22 is BAD ASS. I’ve seen it in person. On the ground as well as in flight at an air show. You can also get closer looks at it in the 2008 Transformers. The decepticon Starscream is an F-22. One of the most technologically advanced fighters out there. Hence the single man cockpit. 2nd only to the F-15 strike eagle which has the advantages of 2 sets of eyes, a pilot, and a whizo.

I worked on this plane for five years when I was in the Air Force and it is a great plane. But i have to correct Sean. This plane puts the smack down on the F-15 no questions asked. The one pilot of an F22 can do the jobs of both the pilot and WSO (weapons system officer) in the F15 because of the cockpit and systems design of the F22. Because of this the F22 pilot is able to recieve, interpret, prioritize and act upon the info easier and faster than the 2 crewmembers of the F15, and keep his eyes off his gauges/instruments and outside the cockpit and in the fight.

I’ve worked on it too in the test world and its an over-engineered piece of crap that has trouble navigating when passing over the international date line. I wouldn’t give you $5 for one. Long live the F-15!
